Overview
Odisha is one of the fastest-growing state economies in India. The state is rich in natural resources, including minerals, forests, and a long coastline.
Key Sectors
- Mining & Minerals: Odisha produces a significant share of India's iron ore, chromite, bauxite, manganese, and coal. It accounts for about 51% of India's chromite production.
- Agriculture: Rice is the principal crop. Other important crops include pulses, oilseeds, sugarcane, and jute. The KALIA scheme supports over 50 lakh farmers.
- Industry: Major industrial hubs include Rourkela (steel), Angul (aluminum), and Paradip (refinery and port). Key companies include NALCO, MCL, IOCL, and Tata Steel.
- IT & Services: Bhubaneswar is emerging as an IT hub with Infocity and other IT parks.
- Tourism: Puri, Konark, and Bhubaneswar (the Golden Triangle) along with Chilika Lake and Simlipal National Park attract significant tourism.
