Government of Odisha

The Government of Odisha, also known as the State Government, is the supreme governing authority of the Indian state of Odisha. It is headed by the Governor of Odisha as the constitutional head and the Chief Minister of Odisha as the head of government.

Structure

The government operates through three branches:

  • Executive: Headed by the Governor (constitutional) and Chief Minister (executive). The Council of Ministers assists the Chief Minister.
  • Legislature: The Odisha Legislative Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) is a unicameral legislature with 147 seats.
  • Judiciary: The Orissa High Court at Cuttack is the highest court of the state, with subordinate courts across all districts.

Administrative Divisions

Odisha is divided into 30 districts, grouped under 5 Revenue Divisions and 3 Development Commissioner zones. The districts are further sub-divided into sub-divisions, tahasils/tehsils, blocks, and gram panchayats for administrative purposes.

Capital

Bhubaneswar is the capital city of Odisha. Cuttack, the former capital, continues to house the Orissa High Court and several important government offices.
